RIM shows developers more forthcoming BlackBerry 10 features

Research In Motion revealed more about its forthcoming BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system at its BlackBerry Jam developer conference in California yesterday.

BlackBerry 10, which is expected to be available on new BlackBerry devices early next year, is focussed on what RIM is calling ‘BlackBerry Flow’ - the idea that a BlackBerry device won’t slow you down. For example, BB10 can show all currently-running applications as small widgets rather than simply as icons. There’s also a unified message application that’ll consolidate messages received via different types of account, such as BBM, LinkedIn and email, and there’ll be a new web browser.

Support is provided for organisations encouraging ‘bring your own device’ connections from staff, with the ‘BlackBerry Balance’ feature enabling organisations to restrict certain applications and options when a BlackBerry smartphone is being used for work.

In addition, RIM said it’ll start selling music and video in its BlackBerry App World store.
