Research In Motion, which manufactures BlackBerry devices, has reported its quarterly results for the three months ended 28th November 2009.
It says revenue was up 11% on the previous quarter and up 41% year-on year to $3.92 billion. Around 82% of this revenue came from device sales. Net income for the quarter was $628.4 million. During the quarter, RIM shipped approximately 10.1 million devices (including its 75 millionth BlackBerry smartphone) and added around 4.4 million new BlackBerry subscriber accounts. It's ended the quarter with approximately 36 million BlackBerry subscribers worldwide. The company says revenue, earnings and subscriber growth were all higher than expected.
It was the second piece of good news from BlackBerry yesterday; the company says it's also resolved a problem with web-based email that was affecting a number of customers across the United States. [Press release]
