A 3D touchscreen LCD display for mobile phones is being developed by Sharp Corporation. Described as having the industry's highest brightness, the new display lets users view three-dimensional images without needing to wear special glasses. In addition, the display can switch between 2D and 3D modes.
The newly developed 3D LCD uses a series of vertical slits – known as a parallax barrier - to display 3D images by controlling light to the right and left eyes. As a result, the display must be held a fixed distance from the user's face.
Sharp's 3D display has a screen size of 3.4 inches and Full Wide VGA (FWVGA) resolution of 480 x 854 pixels.
