VoIP service Skype says it's removing Skype for Windows Phones and Skype Lite from its download page. Although customers who've downloaded the applications will still be able to use them, the company says it's discontinued them because "neither of these apps offered a great Skype experience".
Skype Lite, which is only available in a small number of countries (including the UK), places Skype calls by making a conventional mobile phone call instead of using WiFi or 3G data. Calls are charged at the customer's standard network rate or taken from their 'bundle' allowance. The longer-term future of Skype Lite appears doubtful, with Skype's help section stating "people who have already installed Skype Lite can continue to use it throughout 2010".
