Skype revives the Qik brand as a video messaging app with self-destruct function

Microsoft-owned online telephone service Skype has launched a new mobile messaging app using the Qik brand. Qik was originally a video streaming service that launched in 2007 and was acquired by Skype in 2011.

Skype Qik is now a video messaging app that lets users share short video clips with their Skype contacts. However, unlike other services, the videos will ‘self destruct’ after two weeks.

It’s also possible to pre-record a Qik Flik - a five-second video - to use as a reply.

The new Qik app is currently available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
