Data traffic from the average smartphone user will increase 700% by 2015, according to new research from Informa Telecoms & Media. Smartphones currently account for two-thirds of all mobile traffic, despite smartphone penetration only reaching 13% worldwide.
Average data consumption in Western Europe is expected to hit 736MB per person per month in 2015, up from less than 44MB/month in 2009. The company's figures exclude WiFi usage and cellular traffic generated by laptops or tablets.
