Spending on mobile content and services hit by recession

Analysts at Direct2 Mobile say consumers will be cutting back spending on additional mobile services in the economic downturn, which will disrupt the mobile content and services market in the UK. Mind you, 53% of respondents said they wouldn’t be changing their mobile spending patterns – which could have resulted in a headline that says “most mobile consumers not bothered by recession”. Anyway, 7% of people interviewed said they had, or were going to, stop spending on content and services until things got better. In addition, just under a fifth said they wouldn’t subscribe to mobile content and services at the moment. In the words of the company, “the glass is half full for the mobile operators and half empty for the mobile content and service industry”. [Sources: FierceWireless.com; Direct2 Mobile report]
