Starbucks introducing mobile payments to all its US stores

Starbucks is launching mobile payments in all its company-operated stores across the USA. Initially the service will be available for iPhone and BlackBerry users, with an Android app planned. The company has previously conducted trials in certain areas.

Its mobile payment service is based on the prepaid Starbucks Card. Customers who’ve registered a Starbucks Card simply need to download the free Starbucks Card Mobile App to their smartphone. Over a third of US Starbucks customers use smartphones and nearly three-quarters of these people use BlackBerry devices or iPhones. A fifth of Starbucks transactions in the US are currently made using a Starbucks Card.
