Successful satellite launch for new mobile phone service

TerreStar has launched a communications satellite that will help the company deliver a mobile phone service combining GSM, 3G and satellite coverage across the United States and Canada. TerreStar's smartphone will allow consumers to stay connected via satellite in areas where conventional mobile phone service isn’t available. The device runs the Windows Mobile operating system and, at 118.8 mm x 64.8 mm x 19.25mm, is a similar size to conventional 3G/GSM devices. TerreStar’s service is expected to be operational by the end of 2009. [Press release]
