Symbian aims to keep 50% of the smartphone market

David Wood, former Psion engineer and now Executive Vice-President of Research at the Symbian Foundation, says Symbian should be able to maintain its leadership in the mobile OS market and keep its software in 50% percent of smartphones. The Symbian OS is currently in more than 250 million devices, with usage expected to increase four-fold to one billion devices in 3 to 4 years time. 150 firms are already part of the Symbian Foundation and Mr Wood says around 50 more are expected to join soon.
