T-Mobile UK has announced that it's trialling iSkoot Notifier, a free mobile application that allows customers to simplify their social networking. iSkoot Notifier is available as a free download and doesn't need a 'smartphone'; it'll work on a range of feature phones including the Sony Ericsson W595, Sony Ericsson W705 and Sony Ericsson W995 (all of which support T-Mobile's new 'virtual menu').
iSkoot Notifier is based on proprietary technology from San Francisco-based iSkoot that's already being used by social media apps on AT&T and Verizon Wireless in the US. It's called the Kalaida Mobile Web Services Platform and only requires a single user name and password, with its optimised connection reducing data costs.
Using iSkoot Notifier will enable T-Mobile UK customers to stay connected to Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, along with a choice of over 50 news, sports and entertainment feeds. Customers can post new status messages, send comments and receive updates on their mobile phone in real time.
Matthew Dove, T-Mobile's Head of Prepaid Products, said "We know that our customers want to use social networking. Notifier works on low end devices, which means we can get it to the widest number of customers, not just smartphone users."
