T-Mobile USA removes data roaming charges for over 100 countries

T-Mobile US is going to start offering mobile internet access and text messaging in more than 100 countries at no extra charge. The news follows a recent decision by Three UK to drop roaming charges in seven countries.

From the end of the month, customers in the USA on a T-Mobile ‘Simple Choice’ tariff will receive ‘unlimited’ data and SMS text messages in more than 100 countries worldwide. They’ll also pay a flat rate of 20 cents per minute (13p) for making voice calls from those countries.

In addition, an optional $10 monthly service will enable them to cut the cost of international calls from the USA to $0.20 per minute.

John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile US, said “The cost of staying connected across borders is completely crazy. Today’s phones are designed to work around the world, but we’re forced to pay insanely inflated international connectivity fees to actually use them. You can’t leave the country without coming home to bill shock. So we’re making the world your network - at no extra cost.”
