The GSMA and market research company comScore have announced the official launch of GSMA Mobile Media Metrics in partnership with O2, Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile and 3 UK. It takes anonymised mobile internet usage data to provide accurate data usage figures for the UK.
The first batch of data – just from three operators until later in 2010 – has revealed that 16 million people in the UK accessed the internet from their mobile phones in December 2009. These people tool a total of 4.8 billion minutes to look at 6.7 billion pages.
Over 70% of the usage was taken up by just ten sites. Facebook was at the top of the list, followed by Google. Smartphone users accounted for 47% of total page views and 51% of the total time spent online, even though they represented just 29% of total UK mobile internet users.
