BlackBerry Messenger is OK in India – for a little while longer

The BlackBerry Messenger Service can keep running in India until January 2011, according to the country's Ministry of Home Affairs, but a permanent solution still needs to be found.

The government had previously said that RIM needed to offer law enforcement agencies the ability to intercept corporate email and instant messages. RIM has now set up an interim arrangement for BlackBerry messenger services, although neither side has mentioned BlackBerry email. A permanent solution to India's concerns is expected to be delivered by the end of January.
