Telecom companies agree on voice and text via 4G LTE

A group of major global telecoms companies - AT&T, Orange, Telefonica, TeliaSonera, Verizon, Vodafone, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nokia, Samsung Electronics and Sony Ericsson – have jointly developed a technical profile for LTE voice and SMS services, also known (with a nod to Barry Manilow, surely?) as the One Voice initiative.

Although the fourth-generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard has been designed for high-speed data, it can also handle voice and SMS… but there’s more than one way of doing this.
