Three UK moves into annual profit for the first time

Hutchison Whampoa, the parent company of Three UK, has published its results for 2010.

Total revenue for the business was up 8% to almost HK$326 billion (around £26 billion), with the 3 Group reporting its first-ever positive earnings. It now has over 29.6 million 3G customers worldwide, a 13% year-on-year increase.

Three UK’s revised network sharing arrangement with Everything Everywhere saw ‘a one-time substantial benefit of £500 million’, helping it end 2010 with earnings of £173 million. The company has over 3.3 million prepay customers in the UK and almost 3.9 million post-pay customers; both totals have grown since 2009.
