The most expensive '08' telephone numbers - 0871 and 0872 numbers that cost BT customers between 5p and 10p a minute - will be regulated by premium-rate regulator PhonepayPlus from August 2009. '09' numbers charged at these rates will also be handled by PhonepayPlus. Ofcom says this means consumers will be better informed about the price of calls and will be better protected from scams.
