Twitter is driving mobile internet usage

Mobile internet browser company Novarra has published research that shows how 'micro-blogging sites' such as Twitter are motivating customers to use the mobile internet and then driving usage.

Novarra’s latest Mobile Internet Experience Update revealed that page views of Twitter on mobile devices grew 3500% in the first half of 2009. The company also says page views of bit.ly and tinyurl.com – two URL-shortening services that are regularly used in 140-character tweets - have grown by 1068% so far this year.

tinyurl.com wasn't even in the top 1000 mobile sites at the start of 2009 but is now one of the UK's top 200 sites.
