UK drivers still breaking the law by using mobile phones

It's now three years since the UK fixed penalty for using a hand-held mobile phone when driving was increased to £60 and three penalty points.

However, research carried out by YouGov plc on behalf of Halfords suggests that many drivers are still breaking the law to make and receive calls.

31% of drivers say they've answered a mobile phone call when driving, while 22% say they've made calls. Even more worryingly, 28% have read an SMS text message, 18% had sent a text, 5% have read entries on social networking sites and 3% have checked email when behind the wheel.
