The UK now has a text message donation number that enables mobile phone users to donate £5 to the Disasters Emergency Committee Haiti Earthquake Appeal.
Texting the word GIVE to 70077 on any UK mobile network will donate £5 to DEC. Customers are charged £5 plus their standard network SMS rate, so the full £5 goes to the Haiti appeal.
Text message campaigns in the United States have already raised over $12 million for Haiti, with $10 million donated to the American Red Cross and a further $2 million collected by Yele Haiti, a movement established by Haitian-born musician Wyclef Jean.
