Mobile research company research2guidance says revenue from UK mobile application downloads reached £280 million in 2010. It’s calculated that smartphone users in the UK downloaded over 860 million apps last year, with paid-for apps accounting for 105 million downloads (just over 12%).
The company says 8% of the world’s total app downloads currently take place in the UK.
research2guidance also believes that most smartphones shipped in the UK run the Symbian OS. It says Symbian owners tend to be more passive in using mobile applications when compared to other OS users. Owners of Apple iOS devices are the most active group for app downloads.
