UK mobile operators launch mobile TV trial

O2, Orange, and Vodafone say they’ll be launching a mobile TV pilot scheme in the UK later this year. The new mobile broadcast system will be tested in central London and Slough through October, November and December.

It’ll use Integrated Mobile Broadcast wireless technology within a part of the 3G spectrum that’s rarely used by operators. IMB is capable of handling ‘over the air’ broadcast services and on-demand services via 3G.

IPWireless will supply the core broadcast technology, while Ericsson will provide integration services and a media platform. Streamezzo, recently acquired by AMDOCS, will provide the rich media user interface for the pilot.
