UK-based mobile web specialist 51Degrees.mobi has launched a free mobile analytics service for its customers and other interested users.

Web traffic from 10,000s of mobile-optimised sites can be viewed online and filtered by country, device manufacturer and month.

James Roswell, director of 51Degrees.mobi Limited, said “We receive over 1.5 million device details from our users every day. In May 2011 alone we were sent over 41 million device details. Our interactive analysis charts are available free to anyone, with more detailed information available to Professional Support subscribers and the owners of sites that contribute device details. We think sharing this information is good for the mobile industry and raises the profile of 51Degrees.mobi. That's why we’re giving it away.”

Traffic for May 2011 shows just 6.5% of web visits in the UK using mobile phones, with the vast majority of visits coming from non-mobile devices. 39.5% of all mobile visits were on Apple iPhones, followed by RIM (BlackBerry) with 12.2% and HTC with 11%.

Considering the number of young people I see with iphones, that does not surprise me.

They are a staus symbol as well as a smartphone - with occasional use as a phone.
