Nokia announces Lumia 925 smartphone with new camera features

Nokia has launched a new Windows Phone 8 smartphone in London this morning. It’s called the Nokia Lumia 925 and is described as ‘a new interpretation’ of the Nokia Lumia 920. Unlike the previous flagship device, the Lumia 925 is lighter and has a partly metal body along with an AMOLED screen.

It has a 4.5-inch display and runs on a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The 8.7 megapixel camera has optical image stabilisation and includes Nokia Smart Camera Mode, which shoots multiple 5 megapixel photos that can be edited for clarity or to create motion effects. Nokia Smart Camera will be made available to other Nokia WP8 devices later this year when the company releases a ‘Lumia Amber’ software update.

Although the Lumia 925 doesn’t offer built-in wireless charging, an optional clip-on cover will add compatibility with Nokia’s range of wireless charging accessories.

Jo Harlow, executive vice president of Nokia Smart Devices, said “We keep innovating. We’re advancing experiences on the Nokia Lumia portfolio whether that means great new benefits for an existing Lumia owner, or bringing new showcase devices like the Nokia Lumia 925.”

Sales are expected to start in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and China next month, with SIM-free pricing around €469 EUR (£478 incl. VAT).
