Upgrade sales hit hardest by recession

Research company In-Stat says the global recession will discourage consumers from upgrading their mobile phone, which will make the next couple of years particularly difficult for the mobile industry. It’s calculated that around three-quarters of mobile device sales are replacements, not new connections, and expects a 20% drop in handset shipments this year. [Press release; report]
