US mobile networks get friendlier towards VoIP
AT&T and Verizon Wireless have both said they’re happy for mobile Voice-over-IP services to use their networks. AT&T had previously said it was blocking all mVoIP services; a decision that had caused it to be criticised when the Google Voice application for the Apple iPhone wasn’t approved.
The announcement from Verizon Wireless was less surprising. It’s announced plans to offer mobiles that use Google's Android operating system; an OS that already has a number of mVoIP applications available. [Sources: WashingtonPost.com; FCC.gov (pdf); VZW.com]
