New smartphone security solution includes remote locking

Digital security company F-Secure has said the new version of its F-Secure Mobile Security software, which launches next week, will let handset users lock their phone remotely and can even wipe confidential data if the phone is lost or stolen.

The phone is automatically locked whenever the SIM card is changed and can be manually locked by sending the phone an SMS text message. It’s also possible to erase the phone’s data via SMS. F-Secure Mobile Security 5 is available for Windows Mobile and S60 3rd and 5th edition smartphones.

Around 10,000 mobile phones are reported stolen every month in the UK; last week we reported that 82% of people feared a lost or stolen phone would result in their information being used fraudulently. [Press release]
