Sony Ericsson boosts its green credentials with two new handsets

Last year Sony Ericsson announced its GreenHeart mobile phone concept, which was designed to focus its new product development on environmental sustainability.

Then, six months ago, came the Sony Ericsson C901 and Naite mobile phones, which had e-manuals, smaller packaging, recycled plastics, a low-power charger and 'green' applications.

Now the company has announced two new GreenHeart phones and its first GreenHeart accessory. The phones are the Sony Ericsson Elm and the Sony Ericsson Hazel, whist the accessory is the Bluetooth Noise Shield Handsfree VH700. Sony Ericsson also says it aims to make all of its accessories 100% 'GreenHeart compliant' by 2011.

All three new GreenHeart products use recycled plastics, are free from hazardous chemicals, have a low-power consumption charger and less packaging. The two phones have similar specifications – Elm is a one-piece design, Hazel is a slider – with social networking applications, a 5-megapixel camera, a media player and 3G support. They'll be available from Q2 2010. [Sony Ericsson blog]
