Research In Motion is releasing version 2.0 of its BlackBerry PlayBook operating system today. PlayBook OS 2.0 was originally due to be released last year.

Features available on the new tablet operating system include:
- a unified inbox that combines email and social messaging;
- social network integration with contacts and calendar applications;
- updates to the BlackBerry Bridge app that links the PlayBook to a Blackberry smartphone;
- improved document editing and typing.

David J Smith, senior vice president of Mobile Computing at RIM, said “Building on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet’s proven web browsing, multimedia and multitasking strengths, the new BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 introduces a range of new communications and productivity enhancements as well as expanded app and content support.”
