The Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) has proposed a standard interface between Visual Voicemail programs and voicemail servers. Visual Voicemail combines the familiarity of an email in-box with voice messages, making it easy for users to manage messages from their mobile phone screen. It’s probably best-known on the Apple iPhone, where it’s linked to the supplying network and can’t be used if the device is ‘unlocked’ for other networks. [Press release]
