Today's the official launch of Windows Phone 7, the Microsoft mobile operating system that was announced in February. The company says Windows Phone 7 devices will go on sale from 21st October in "select European and Asian markets", with the USA seeing WP7 smartphones from 8th November on AT&T. In total, more than 60 mobile operators in over 30 countries have committed to offering Windows Phones.
Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft, said "We have a beautiful lineup in this first wave of Windows Phone 7 handsets. Microsoft and its partners are delivering a different kind of mobile phone and experience - one that makes everyday tasks faster by getting more done in fewer steps and providing timely information in a ‘glance and go’ format."
Devices destined for the UK include the HTC HD7, HTC 7 Mozart, HTC 7 Trophy, LG Optimus 7 and Samsung Omnia 7. All use a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
