Microsoft says it's expanding Zune, its digital entertainment service, into more than 20 countries – including the UK. Zune's music and video services will be available on Windows-based PCs, on Windows Phone 7 handsets and on the Xbox gaming console later this year.
The Zune PC software has been upgraded to serve as the Windows Phone 7 synchronisation client; the equivalent of iTunes for the Apple iPhone. It'll let users manage their own collection of videos, music, podcasts and photos – and will also let them buy more items. In addition, Zune Pass will offer unlimited downloads and streaming for £8.99 per month.
Craig Eisler, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business Group at Microsoft, said "The integration between Zune, Windows Phone 7 and Xbox LIVE is an exciting expansion in our entertainment offerings. Zune enables users to access the entertainment they want, wherever they want it — and now, more people than ever will be able to enjoy the freedom and flexibility that the Zune service offers."
