Microsoft prepares for its first own-brand Lumia smartphone

Nokia branding currently being dropped from web sites

Microsoft has confirmed it’s started changing its smartphone branding from Nokia Lumia to Microsoft Lumia. It follows Microsoft’s acquisition of the Nokia Devices & Services business in April.

Earlier this week, the Facebook page for Nokia France proclaimed “We are on the verge of becoming ‘Microsoft Lumia!’”.

Since then, the Nokia Conversations blog has confirmed more about the planned changes. Tuula Rytilä, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Phones at Microsoft, is quoted as saying “Our global and local websites are going through a transition as we speak and in the coming days our social channels will get a new name too – they will be called Microsoft Lumia.”

She also anticipates a Microsoft Lumia device being unveiled “soon”.

However, Ms Rytilä points out that Microsoft will continue producing Nokia-branded feature phones under a licensing agreement.
