RIM unveils BlackBerry Torch smartphone running new BlackBerry 6 OS

BlackBerry 9800 TorchResearch In Motion has announced the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone, the first device that’ll run the BlackBerry 6 operating system. It’s also the first BlackBerry handset to combine a slide-out QWERTY keyboard with a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen.

Mike Lazaridis, president and co-CEO of RIM, said “With a new user interface, new browser and new handset design, the highly anticipated BlackBerry Torch and BlackBerry 6 deliver integrated and uncompromising capabilities for consumers and business professionals that preserve the industry-leading strengths of the BlackBerry platform while adding exciting new dimensions.”

Vodafone UK has already confirmed it’ll be offering the BlackBerry Torch.
