Up to 1.4 million O2 UK SIMs could be used in G4S smart meters

Last week Telefonica UK extended its partnership with G4S Utility Services, which is part of the G4S security group. The new five-year agreement includes the provision of up to 1.4 million O2 SIM cards for ‘smart’ gas/electricity meters and is one of the largest-ever M2M deals in the UK. Up to 70,000 SIMs per month will be delivered for the G4S Utility Services smart meter roll-out.

Kim Challis, Managing Director of G4S Utility Services, said “G4S Utility Services is committed to the Telefonica UK partnership, and this is another great example of our successful work together. Telefonica UK provides G4S with the partnership and strategic relationship we require to continue to be successful in the Utility Services sector.”

G4S Utility Services has won contracts to install smart meters nationally for a range of customers.
