eBay buys its mobile application development partner

eBay has acquired Critical Path Software, the mobile application developer it’s worked with for the past two years. Critical Path is responsible for a number of eBay’s apps, including the eBay iPhone app – downloaded more that 14 million times since its launch in July 2008. Commercial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mark Carges, chief technology officer and senior vice president of global products at eBay Marketplaces, said “We’re very serious about innovating in mobile commerce, and this acquisition underscores our commitment to bringing the very best and brightest in the field to eBay. Integrating the Critical Path Software team into eBay will be a big win for mobile shoppers around the world; combined with the talent on our team today, we can make shopping and selling anywhere, anytime, for almost anything, even better.”

eBay expects to sell goods worth $1.5 billion through mobile commerce this year.
