VoIP and video calling service Skype is now available for Windows Phone devices. The news, which broke during Nokia’s press event at Mobile World Congress this morning, means that Skype can be used on most major smartphone operating systems. A beta version of the WP7 app is available now, with the finished ‘gold’ version due in April.
Skype for Windows Phone Beta supports audio and video calls over mobile and WiFi connections.
In a blog post, Rick Osterloh - Skype’s vice president of product - said “This is only the beginning for Skype for Windows Phone... it's just going to get better and better. We see incredible potential to include Skype capabilities in Windows Phone in order to enable a great experience for you.”
