LG announces its new flagship Android smartphone ahead of Mobile World Congress

LG Electronics has announced the LG G Pro 2 smartphone today. It’s a successor to the LG G Pro, which was revealed in February last year. South Korea is currently the only market confirmed for the LG G Pro 2, although wider availability is expected to be announced during or after Mobile World Congress.

This new mobile handset runs Android v4.4 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2.26 GHz quad-core processor. It’s equipped with a 5.9-inch (1920 x 1080 pixel) display and has a 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation. Video clips can be recorded in 4K ultra HD and in 120fps HD slow-motion.

Other features include a ‘Knock Code’ that lets users activate and unlock their smartphones by tapping the screen in a certain rhythm.

Dr Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said “Knock Code is an example of LG bringing simpler, more convenient solutions to consumers’ mobile lives. Whereas in the early years of smartphones it was a contest to see how many features could be stuffed into the phones, our researchers took a long, hard look at how consumers were really using their devices in their daily lives and included just the most useful UX features. We think customers will agree.”
