Vodafone UK provides text donation service for New Zealand earthquake appeal

Vodafone UK has set up a commission-free text donation number for customers wishing to donate to the Red Cross New Zealand earthquake appeal.

UK Vodafone customers can make a £5 donation to the Red Cross by texting NZQUAKE to 70801. The donation will be taken from the customer’s ‘pay as you talk’ credit or added to their ‘pay monthly’ bill. There’ll be no additional charge for sending the text; 100% of the donation will be passed on by Vodafone and given to the Red Cross.

The Vodafone Foundation, which has already donated £100,000 to support the rescue and relief effort, will donate an additional £1 for every £5 donation made (up to a total of £100,000).

The text number will be available for one week, from Thursday 24th February until Thursday 3rd March 2011.
