Virgin Media has announced half-year and quarterly results today. Overall, revenue is up 3.9% for the half-year and up 2.2% for the quarter; the quarterly figure is £986 million. Operating income is up 64.5% for the half-year and up 69.5% to £135 million for the quarter.
When it comes to mobile phones, quarterly revenue from the mobile business was down slightly on the same period last year - but half-year revenue was up slightly. The change to mobile termination rates was blamed for this revenue drop.
The company says it’s seen its best period of mobile customer growth for three and a half years, adding 83,200 contract customers in the quarter. This has taken the total Virgin Media contract customer base to 1.35 million, a 23% increase from the same point in 2010. The company also has 1.7 million prepay customers; a figure that’s fallen by 32,600 in the last quarter.
