Music discovery service Shazam is rolling out its LyricPlay feature across all its free and paid apps for iOS and Android devices. After Shazam has identified a song that’s playing, LyricPlay displays the song’s lyrics in time with the music.
LyricPlay was launched after Shazam acquired technology from California-based Tunezee in June. The feature was already available on the Shazam Encore and (SHAZAM) RED iPhone and iPod apps. It’s now been extended to the free iOS version and is also being introduced to free and paid apps on Android handsets.
Alex Musil, Shazam’s EVP of Product, said “Since the launch of LyricPlay in June for people with our premium apps on iOS, we’ve seen them embrace this innovative feature as an entertaining way to interact with the songs they love. Given its popularity, we wanted all people with iOS and Android-powered devices to have access to LyricPlay as we deliver a richer music experience. No other app offers synchronised lyrics with animation like Shazam does, showing lyrics in a distinctive way as they slide and scroll across the screen giving a magical extended experience to people using our service.”
