MasterCard certifies more NFC phones and reveals 'PayPass Ready' scheme

Mastercard PayPass ReadyMasterCard Worldwide has certified more NFC-equipped smartphones for use with MasterCard PayPass contactless payment technology. The new devices include the BlackBerry Bold 9900 & 9790, BlackBerry Curve 9360 & 9380, HTC One X, LG Optimus Elite, Nokia 603, Samsung Wave Y, Sony Xperia S and Sony Xperia P.

There’s also a new logo for ‘MasterCard PayPass Ready’ that’s available for manufacturers to use with NFC-enabled smartphones that have been tested and certified by MasterCard. It indicates that a device has been approved for MasterCard PayPass and will be capable of making contactless payment transactions when enabled with a PayPass account.

Mung Ki Woo, group executive for Mobile at MasterCard, said “In the near future, millions of phones will ship with NFC technology embedded within them. The new PayPass Ready identifier will help consumers make informed device purchasing decisions by providing a visual mark that indicates devices are certified to make simple, smart and secure payments via the MasterCard PayPass network.”
