Unified communications provider Daisy Group plc has agreed to acquire rival telecoms supplier SpiriTel in a deal that values SpiriTel at £27.3m. SpiriTel itself is no stranger to consolidation, having acquired 12 businesses in the last four years. It currently has a customer base of around 4,000 businesses.

Matthew Riley, Chief Executive Officer of Daisy Group plc, said "This is the largest acquisition the Company has made since coming to market last year. The Board believes that this acquisition gives Daisy Group a strong foothold in the mid-market, strengthening our sales team and engineering force, while significantly enhancing both our product portfolio and customer base. With our data hosting capabilities from the former Vialtus business, this deal gives us a great cross-sale opportunity to sell hosted solutions and fill our three data centres in London, Manchester and Fareham. In addition the business’ position as a Mitel Premier Partner, coupled with a nationwide engineering force will see enhancements to the Group’s systems and maintenance division. Over the last 18 months, Daisy Group has acquired and integrated 10 businesses. The Board believes the experience of those acquisitions should enable an efficient integration of SpiriTel into the Daisy Group platform."

At the beginning of July 2011 the rate for European roaming charges fell to a maximum of 38p per minute (incl. VAT) for calls made while abroad in the EU – and 12p per minute for calls received. There’s also a maximum 12p charge for sending text messages.

ExclusiveNokia prices: how low can you go?

Mark Bridge writes:

This week Nokia has announced the latest iteration of its Symbian software platform: Symbian Belle, which follows the alphabetical theme started by Symbian Anna. Whether we'll reach Symbian Zoe, Zara or Zsa-Zsa before Symbian support ends in 2016 is another matter. But I digress.

Along with Symbian Belle came three new phones - yet it was two other Nokia phones announced from Kenya on Thursday that caught my eye.
