Although there have been a number of ‘Facebook phones’ launched in the last couple of years, the description of Vodafone’s latest offering stands out from the crowd.

The company describes the Vodafone 555 Blue as “the world’s first designated prepay phone specifically designed to put the Facebook experience into the heart of the handset”. It’s been developed in collaboration with Facebook and has been produced exclusively for Vodafone by TCL.

Facebook integration includes Facebook messages appearing in the phone’s inbox alongside texts and email, photo sharing directly from the 2-megapixel camera and Facebook profiles that synchronise with the handset’s address book.

Henri Moissinac, Head of Mobile Business at Facebook, said “Facebook wants to make every phone social and Vodafone has taken the integration of Facebook to the next stage for an affordable mobile device with the Vodafone 555 Blue. We’re really happy that Vodafone will distribute this phone globally and we hope to do much more with them to bring the mobile, social internet to people everywhere.”

Mark Bridge writes:

Last month, News Corporation's Rupert Murdoch said the News of the World had accounted for just 1% of his global business. It's a figure that put the overall size of News Corp into perspective.

This week, some analysis of Microsoft's financial results seems to suggest Windows Phone is only generating a similarly small percentage for its parent.
