BlackBerry has announced that it’s the Official Mobile Computing Partner for the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team.

This follows the company’s announcement of its BlackBerry 10 platform last week and its appointment of singer/songwriter Alicia Keys in the new role of Global Creative Director. She’s now working with film director Robert Rodriguez and author Neil Gaiman on projects that are designed to be a creative collaboration between the three artists, the BlackBerry company and BlackBerry users.

BlackBerry’s role as Mobile Computing Partner will see it working with the Mercedes F1 team on technical and marketing opportunities. It’ll be using its BlackBerry 10 platform to deliver tools and services for the team, there’ll be smartphones for team members and BlackBerry will also be developing apps for fans.

Expect to see the BlackBerry brand on the new F1 W04 Silver Arrow car and on the race suits worn by drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Ross Brawn, Team Principal at the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, said “We are looking forward to embracing the new BlackBerry 10 platform at both a technical and operational level, as well as collaborating with the team at BlackBerry to bring new mobile innovation to MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS. It is especially pleasing to be able to launch this exciting partnership today as the latest Silver Arrow takes to the track with BlackBerry branding.”
