Mozilla has appointed Chris Beard to its board of directors and has also awarded him the position of interim CEO. Previous CEO Brendan Eich stepped down earlier this month after criticism of his personal beliefs. He’d been in the role for less than two weeks.

Chris Beard has been involved with Mozilla for around ten years and has previously served as the organisation’s Chief Marketing Officer.

Mitchell Baker, Mozilla’s executive chair, said “We intend to use recent events as a catalyst to develop and expand Mozilla’s leadership. Appointing Chris as our interim CEO is a first step in this process. Next steps include a long-term plan for the CEO role, adding board members who can help Mozilla succeed and continuing our efforts to actively support each Mozillian to reach his or her full potential as a leader.”

ExclusiveThe positive cult of giffgaff

Mark Bridge writes:

Wouldn't it be great if mobile customers loved their networks so much that they'd fight for them?  Ofcom would be inundated with complaints from O2 users about its decision not to allow GSM frequencies to be used for 3G services. Vodafone customers would demand that Nokia pre-loaded the N8 with a Vodafone 360 application. Orange users would be sending petitions to radio stations, asking them to implement HD Voice on phone-ins. And giffgaff users would take to online forums to defend the service they receive.

Oh, hang on. That last one's already happening.
