BlackBerry has appointed two of the mobile industry’s best-known names to its board of directors. They’re Dick Lynch, former Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer of Verizon Communications, and Bert Nordberg, the former CEO of Sony Ericsson.

Barbara Stymiest, the chair of BlackBerry’s board, said “We are very pleased to add the talent and industry knowledge of these two respected executives to our Board. We are looking forward to their contributions as we continue to drive for long-term shareholder value and seek opportunities to leverage the extraordinary BlackBerry 10 platform launched last week.”

The company recently appointed singer/songwriter Alicia Keys to the role of ‘Global Creative Director’ at BlackBerry, although this doesn’t appear to be a board position. There are now 12 members of BlackBerry’s board of directors.

Mark Bridge writes:

Last week the Wall Street Journal published a feature that explained how techies in New York wanted the city’s 212 area code as part of their mobile phone numbers. This may seem strange from a UK perspective until you realise that American mobile phone numbers don’t have dedicated mobile ‘dialling codes’. Instead, they’re all prefixed with a local area code and cost the same to call as those landline numbers they mimic.

Yesterday I received the following text message from O2: “You’ve gone over your data allowance on your mobile. You need to cut down or get a bigger Bolt On to keep using the internet.” I thought this was strange as I’ve an unlimited data bolt on applied to my O2 UK contract so I decided to telephone O2 customer services to find out a little bit more. Here’s what happened.
