Apple says its customers have downloaded more than 40 billion applications from its App Store, with almost half of them happening last year. In fact, December alone saw over two million app downloads.

There are now over 500 million active customer accounts on the App Store and over 775,000 apps available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, said “It has been an incredible year for the iOS developer community. Developers have made over seven billion dollars on the App Store, and we continue to invest in providing them with the best ecosystem so they can create the most innovative apps in the world.”
