Computing giant Intel has acquired Basis Science, the company behind the Basis band. The Basis band is a wearable fitness and health tracker that offers online analysis of these metrics.

Intel’s acquisition boosts its focus on wearable products, which was highlighted when the company demonstrated ‘smart’ earbuds and an always-on smart headset at CES earlier this year.

Jef Holove, the former Basis CEO who’s now been appointed as a general manager in Intel’s New Devices Group, said “Intel is a great fit for Basis products, employees and consumers. The acquisition brings access to Intel resources, expertise and global scale as we work together to explore new possibilities of wearable technology. Meanwhile, keeping our existing team intact ensures we can remain focused on our mission of improving the health and well-being of people.”

Sales of the Basis band will continue and the Basis team will remain focussed on their current product roadmap.

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.
