New mid-range Samsung smartphones are its slimmest ever

Samsung Electronics has revealed two new metal-bodied smartphones aimed at younger consumers. The Samsung Galaxy A5 is just 6.7mm thin, while the Galaxy A3 is 6.9mm, making them the company’s thinnest-ever handsets.

Both run Android v4.4 on a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. There’s a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera and 5-inch HD screen on the Galaxy A5, while the Galaxy A3 has an 8 megapixel camera and  4.5-inch qHD display.

They’re available in a range of colours and are equipped with a 5 megapixel front-facing camera that offers various ‘selfie’ self-portrait features.

JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics, said “The Galaxy A5 and A3 offer a beautifully crafted full metal unibody, slim design, superior hardware and the best possible social media experience. These devices make our advanced Galaxy experience even more accessible to young and trend conscious consumers.”

The two phones are expected to go on sale this month, although a date for UK availability hasn’t been confirmed yet.
